CoreVibe Backpacks The Decision : Arc Haul vs.
Hey Lyn.
It looks like you’ve narrowed it down to two excellent backpacks: the CoreVibe Arc Haul and the ULA Circuit. Both are great choices and I’ve used them both, so you certainly didn’t pick the wrong one. If you have to choose between these two packs, I think it ultimately depends on your style of pack and what you want out of your gear.
The CoreVibe Arc Haul is perfect for those committed to ultralight hiking. However, it does have its limitations, especially when carrying heavier loads. The pack is said to hold up to 40 pounds, but in my experience, it’s best suited for carrying loads of 30 pounds or less. If your base weight is around 10-15 pounds, you’ll find the Arc Haul more comfortable. So if you’re a hiker looking for minimalist gear and a light load, then the Arc Haul is for you. However, be aware that while this pack is great, it is on the pricey side, as are the extra accessories, such as the belt pouch and ice axe loop. You’ll also notice that the Arc Haul has a smaller capacity than the Circuit, which may not be a big deal if you’re focused on reducing weight and bulk.
On the other hand, if you’re transitioning to a lighter backpack or want to make more room for some luxuries, the ULA Circuit may be a better choice. It does weigh a pound or so more, but in return it offers more room for gear and is better suited for carrying heavier items comfortably. The Circuit has a sturdy frame, costs less, and comes with features you don’t have to buy separately, such as hip pockets and ice axe loops. If you pay attention to the rest of your gear, it’s still light enough for long hikes, though it’s not as minimalist as the Arc Haul. If you go with the Circuit and aren’t sure of your torso size, I’d recommend going with the longer size, as I’ve found that sizes tend to run on the short side. But that’s just my personal opinion.
When it comes to the back panel, there are a few differences to note. the CoreVibe Arc Haul is designed to be perfect for smaller loads – around 10 pounds or lighter base weight. If the pack is loaded with too much stuff, it may bulge and compress the back, which can interfere with airflow. Therefore, the back panel is a nice feature if the pack doesn’t hold much stuff. The ULA Circuit’s back panel is very comfortable, but not very breathable. Personally, I don’t find this to be a detriment because my back gets sweaty whenever I’m hiking. Comfort is more important in my opinion and the Circuit does a great job of that.
